The world needs problem solvers. Our current climate is in desperate need of environmentally friendly solutions. Who is going to rise to the challenge? There is currently a shortage in the engineering industry, and this course is designed to turn this around, giving an experience of what your future career and passion could be.
‘Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It’s coming up with ideas, testing principles and perfecting the engineering, as well as final assembly.’ Sir James Dyson
Ambition for our pupils
This course is the perfect introduction to the industry, aiming to give pupils a clear overview of what it is to be an engineer and how engineering fits into society. Pupils will leave with an array of design skills, as well as tooling and machining abilities core to progressing in the world of engineering. They will experience first hand what goes into developing newly engineered products and components and explore what the local industry has to offer.
The structure of our curriculum
Engineering can be studied as a BTEC option at key stage 4. It builds on the knowledge, skills and experiences of Design Technology at key stage 3.
The course is structured around a series of theoretical and practical assignments which test pupils’ ability to:
- record and evaluate engineering data;
- analyse a component and develop alternative solutions;
- interpret engineering drawings and tables.
