PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Welcome to Sawston Village College, a 1130-pupil 11-16 mixed academy, 7 miles south of the iconic city of Cambridge, and part of Anglian Learning, a highly successful school trust.  We are a proud and happy College, fully committed to inclusive, comprehensive education for all.  Pupils and staff work hard together to achieve excellent academic outcomes.

Ethos and values

Our mission at Sawston Village College is to unlock potential, create opportunity and achieve excellence in all aspects of our work, an ambition that applies equally to pupils and staff. As a result, we expect all learners to leave school having: achieved to their highest academic potential; embraced all available opportunities; learned how to value, respect and care for each other, and taken responsibility to support their school and the wider community.

Curriculum

At Sawston Village College, we are committed to delivering a curriculum that realises our aims and values of:

  • unlocking potential;
  • creating opportunities;
  • achieving excellence.

In this, we recognise that academic excellence is only one part of providing an outstanding education.

News

The Principal produces a weekly round-up of news for parents and carers. In addition to this, we have a half-termly newsletter and a termly magazine. These publications can all be found in the drop down menu of our News and Events section. The half-termly newsletter is written by staff, while the termly Fountain magazine is compiled and edited by pupils. We have also produced an Alumni News for our former pupils, which is in the Alumni section of the website.

A PROUD HERITAGE

We are proud to be the first village college founded by Henry Morris. His vision was for a school which would nurture a lifelong love of learning for people of all ages, in an environment that offered inspiration. Based on Cambridge University courtyards, our original Grade II listed buildings reflect these ideals, and these values are still at the heart of our work over 90 years later.

Our campus today encompasses some 30 acres of classrooms, state of the art laboratories and extensive sports facilities, providing a stimulating environment in which to learn.

PLANNING FOR OUR FUTURE

At Sawston Village College we are making plans for our future.

Our College boasts a heritage setting and unique character, however, some of the current building stock and site layout are inefficient for the demands of a modern curriculum.

The DfE has tasked Bowmer + Kirkland with planning for the future of the school. Follow the Read More button below for more information on these plans and to find out how you can become involved.
