English
English at Sawston Village College is taught by a team of specialist teachers. We benefit from being based in a purpose-built suite of rooms, each having video and T.V. links and we make frequent use of the College ICT rooms.
Through an emphasis on oral work we aim to ensure that pupils develop confidence in speaking for a range of purposes and audiences and learn to listen, understand and respond critically to others. In their writing too, pupils will learn to communicate for a range of purposes, developing distinctive styles yet paying close attention to Standard English and correctness. We place a heavy emphasis on reading and in addition to set texts and extracts we expect all pupils to have a personal reading book with them at all times.
