Bronze and Silver

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a programme for young people aged 14-25 that is designed to challenge them and give them a broad experience of different areas of life.

At Sawston Village College we run the Bronze Award and Silver Award. The Awards have four parts: Skills, Physical, Volunteering and Expedition. Participants pursue the first three sections independently; however, they are provided guidance, advice, and assistance by the College’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award manager, once they are enrolled onto the programme.

The Expedition section is organised through the College, through an accredited activities provider. Pupils complete a training weekend which provides them with the necessary skills to complete a self-reliant, assessed group expedition without direct staff supervision.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is very popular at the College with over 120 participants enrolling in 2025 and 2026. Due to the logistics, numbers are capped at 140 participants for Bronze and 28 at Silver.
