Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Bronze and Silver
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a programme for young people aged 14-25 that is designed to challenge them and give them a broad experience of different areas of life.
At Sawston Village College we run the Bronze Award and Silver Award. The Awards have four parts: Skills, Physical, Volunteering and Expedition. Participants pursue the first three largely independently; however, we are on hand to offer advice and assistance through our weekly drop-in service. The last part is something we focus on in the College. Pupils will receive training most weeks, will take part in a training, or practice, expedition and will then experience complete self-reliance as they plan and undertake their assessed expedition in groups without direct staff supervision.
Each year, dozens of pupils take part in the Bronze Award and many go on to the Silver Award.
