Fixture against Comberton

Well done to our Year 8 boys who have won their first fixture in the district cup against Comberton Village College. Sacrificing their Valentines Day evening (14 February 2024), the boys put in a huge effort to win 4-3 against a tough opposition.

Easing into the first half, there were plenty of high tempo plays from both teams leaving the ball in all corners of the pitch. Max Crump (2) saw the first goal which was closely followed by a second, giving us a 2-0 lead. Comberton played some excellent football, determined to compete, leading to a strong goal. Luke Warner and Miles Horton battled relentlessly, preventing many chances from unfolding for Comberton. Going into the second half, Taddy Fouda (2) scored a brilliant goal against the keeper that, again, was returned with a goal from Comberton, putting it at 3-2. The consistent pressure from the opposition gave Sawston no opportunity for rest. A second for Taddy in the final 5 minutes alleviated the pressure of a draw but again, they returned with a 3rd. Playing hard into the final seconds, Torin Jones made a fantastic save, preventing an equaliser and Oliver Prior knocked the ball away to finish the game.

As the final whistle blew, the relief came over the boys and we could celebrate our win. A successful first game of the cup. Well done to all!
