SEND: Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

At Sawston Village College we value the abilities and achievements of all pupils and we are committed to providing the best possible learning environment for each pupil. We endeavour to make every effort to achieve an inclusive environment that does not discriminate against any pupil, regardless of disability or special educational need, maximising pupil achievement and promoting independence and lifelong learning skills.

How do we support our pupils?

Quality teaching is vital; however, for some children, there are occasions when further additional support may be needed to help them achieve their full potential, and this is when the SEND Department offers additional support.

The SEND Team consists of the SENDCo, Deputy SENDCo, two High Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) responsible for Literacy interventions, Foundation Learning and Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) interventions, and 11 Teaching Assistants with a range of different subject specific skills and SEND specialisms.

Where are we based?

The Student Centre rooms can be found in the Edinburgh Wing. Here, we can provide a quiet space for a range of interventions according to a young person’s identified need. This is also the base for our two Dog Mentors and our new sensory room.
