Sawston Village College Regeneration

At Sawston Village College we are making plans for our future.

Our College boasts a heritage setting and unique character, however, some of the current building stock and site layout are inefficient for the demands of a modern curriculum.

The DfE has tasked Bowmer + Kirkland with planning for the future of the school; to better accommodate pupils and staff, improve energy efficiencies and reduce running costs, bolster the collegiate style layout, protect our historic listed buildings and provide improved facilities for the local community to share. These include updating the Sports Centre and Marven Centre.

These exciting plans represent a major investment from the DfE and will achieve a more welcoming, attractive and safe environment in which to teach and learn. The regeneration will meet the latest standards of sustainable building regulations and will be largely constructed off-site to help minimise disruption to our neighbours.

Following a public consultation in January-February 2024, a planning application was submitted to the South Cambridgeshire District Council. We thank parents, neighbours and members of their community for their feedback and in helping shape the plans.

Early works on the project began over the summer. Details of this work and future work can be found in the monthly community updates provided by B&K (below).

Whilst the work is carried out, the College will be able to use all existing buildings and the normal timetable will run. Work in the Sports Centre will require some adjustments to the PE curriculum when access is restricted to areas being refurbished. Anglian Leisure will update Sports Centre users on any changes.

We will update this page with more information when it becomes available from the DfE and B&K.
