Artsmark Platinum Award
Sawston Village College receives prestigious Artsmark Platinum Award
Pupils and staff at Sawston Village College are celebrating after receiving the prestigious Artsmark Platinum Award.
The Artsmark Award is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports schools to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education, putting creativity and wellbeing at the heart of the curriculum. Artsmark ensures every young person can be creative and access a diverse, high-quality cultural education.
In feedback on Sawston Village College’s submission, the Artsmark assessor commented: “Sawston Village College is an outstanding arts provider, offering an excellent range of arts opportunities and experiences to its pupils and increasingly taking a lead in contributing to the development of arts education beyond its walls. Your philosophy respects the discrete values and unique processes of each of the arts subjects studied and builds staff expertise accordingly. …It is excellent that students are encouraged to use their creativity in the Arts to explore and give voice to issues that concern them and their community.”
On receiving the award, Jonathan Russell, Principal, said: “We’re extremely proud of achieving the Artsmark Platinum Award. We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education and we look forward to continuing to grow with Artsmark.”
Dr Darren Henley CBE, Chief Executive of the Arts Council, said: “I would like to congratulate Sawston Village College on their Artsmark Platinum Award. Becoming an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, ambitious, and creative curriculum, every pupil can develop character and resilience, increasing their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them through to adult life.”
