Houses and Mentor Groups
Just as we aim for excellence in our teaching, we also aim for excellence in the quality of support we offer our pupils. We are a friendly and welcoming community, with staff who care deeply about the progress and wellbeing of all of our pupils. Central to this is our House system. We have four Houses:
da Vinci House
Earhart House
Mandela House
Turing House
All pupils are placed in one of these Houses, which are led by non-teaching Heads of House/Year Leads. Within each House, there are smaller mixed-age mentor groups. Each mentor group has two mentors. Pupils quickly form positive relationships with others across the year groups in their group, and mentors and Heads of House are able to respond quickly to any needs, providing a very personalised experience.
Mentor group time takes place every morning and, during this, pupils have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities and opportunities. Some activities involve cross-year group work, while others are individual to each year group. Specific year group activities include: support for Year 7s around their transition to secondary school; the opportunity for Year 8s to reflect on their time in Year 7 and to consider their hopes for the coming year both academically and personally; time for Year 9s to work on their ILPs (Individual Learning Plans) in preparation for their Options Choices; Year 10s will be preparing for their Work Experience placements, and for Year 11s there is a chance to focus on their post-16 applications.
