GROW YOUR OWN FRUIT & VEGETABLES (ORGANIC GARDENING) MONDAY 19.00-21.00

COURSE DETAILS AND AIMS:

In this spring term edition of our Grow Your Own evening course we will be getting our gardens and allotments ready for a productive new growing season. Each week we will look at the different jobs we can be getting on with and develop our practical skills with hands on exercises in class such as seed sowing, potting on and soil assessment.

Through this we will also discover the science and theory behind the different gardening tasks, including: planning your plot, soil and soil management, sowing and planting, feeding and watering, pests, weeds and diseases, growing under cover as well as in depth looks at how to grow a range of different fruit and vegetable crops.

SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
None. Suitable both for beginners looking to develop their knowledge and skills as well as experienced growers looking for a group of likeminded gardeners to grow along with.

MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR FIRST CLASS:
None, but a notebook and pen will be useful throughout. Learners may wish to equip themselves with gardening supplies so that we can grow along together during the course. Start with what you already have though and we will discuss different options throughout the course, along with recommended suppliers etc.

ADDITIONAL COURSE COSTS (IF APPLICABLE):
Learners may wish to purchase seeds, plants and supplies (pots, compost, tools, propagator etc) to grow along at home during the course. Some of these can be purchased from the tutor and different suppliers will be recommended throughout the course.

ABOUT YOUR TUTOR:  ROSS LILLEY
Ross Lilley is a registered plant health professional and official seed inspector with over 10 years’ experience working in the agriculture and horticulture industry. In his spare time, Ross has managed an organic vegetable garden and allotment for over 15 years, where he can usually be found with his young family.
