Sawston Village College’s Bike Week

During National Bike to School Week (26 to 30 April), Sawston Village College ran a series of activities to encourage, promote and reward those pupils who cycled to school. The week was organised and run in conjunction with the Sustrans Bike It Project and Sawston Village College’s Bike It Crew (William Dee, Hannes Whittingham, Joseph Gruby, Blythe Brett and Charlie Gruby) organised the activities with support from their mentor, Mrs Jan Bucklow and Cambridge Bike It Officer, Maya Stratton-Brook.

Pupils who were lucky enough, were offered the chance to take part in the following activities:

• a free smoothie made by a bicycle powered blender www.blendavenda.com;
• free lunchtime maintenance sessions run by Year 11 pupil Will Dee;
• a bicycle stunt show, performed by Rich Johnson of www.rjrideguide.com.

We are also offering pupils the chance to buy bicycle accessories at cost price for the rest of this half-term. Items available are helmets, bells, lights, locks and bicycle pumps. If you or your child is interested in buying any of these items, they can view them at the Uniform Shop. You will need to fill in an order form (click here to download) and bring the correct money, or a cheque payable to ‘Sawston Village College’. Items will be dispatched to the school after half- term.
