Construction

BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Construction takes the equivalent of two options at Key Stage 4. It is a relatively new course and is broadly equivalent to 4 GCSEs (A* - C) awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction level.

Pupils who are interested in a career related to the construction industry will find this course ideal. The course is made up of three compulsory units: An Introduction to the Construction Industry, Exploring Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction, The use of Science and Mathematics in Construction and the three optional units chosen by the College: Exploring Carpentry and Joinery, Exploring Trowel Operations and Exploring Painting and Decorating. 

This course will provide a wide variety of learning opportunities developing the skills needed for working in the construction industry.

Tasks could include:

  • written assignments
  • role plays
  • producing tapes and videos
  • taking photographs
  • conducting questionnaires
  • undertaking surveys
  • interviewing people on site
  • practical assignments
  • research

Some tasks will be carried out individually and others as part of a team.

Assessment is carried out by completing a series of assignments, there is no final examination in this course.
