Securus

Despite traditional internet blocking and filtering systems, all schools face increasing problems with pupils attempting to circumvent safeguards and access unacceptable material on unrecognised websites. At Sawston Village College we have invested in a powerful monitoring system called Securus to identify and prevent pupils bypassing the filtering system and protect the college ICT network from abuse.

How Securus Works

Screenshot capture

Everything that appears in individual PC screens, whether via the internet, email or in Office documents, is monitored and checked against textual word and phrase libraries covering such areas as drugs, bullying, pornography and racism. If an unacceptable word or phrase is detected, Securus triggers a screenshot with date, time, PC location and user identity.

Blocking of new sites

All websites visited are logged, providing evidence of any activities which are ‘off task’. Applications and sites can be locked down to ensure that the whole class are focused on a single piece of software or internet address.

Laptops

Any laptops taken out of school for authorised reasons are still monitor by Securus, with activity reviewed when they reconnect to the college network.
